Exclamation Rear end clunk noise. Please help

Last night I noticed that when I would get off the gas and it would shift, I would hear a clunking noise coming from the rear end. Once I got home, I would put it in reverse wile the brake is applied and it would make the same noise, but not so much when I would shift it into drive.
Here is a list of things that have been done: New shocks/springs. Upper and lower control arms. Removed quad shocks, 245 tires. UV joints were replaced last season, maybe 2000 miles on them. Transmission was rebuilt at the same time the UV joints were replaced along with new poly trans and motor mounts.
What could it be? Is it time to put gears in it? Also the balance weight on the nose of the rear end had a broken bolt on it so I removed it. Is it needed? Thanks for your help guys!!

Ultra Voilet joints? ha

Anyway, there may be too much backlash in the ring and pinion...

That weight is to dampen driveline vibration...

So basically its possible the stock gears have just worn themselves out?

Is there a way I can verify that there is too much slop in the gears? Also should I re install the weight for the drive line vibration?

take off your rear differential cover and turn the ring gear back and forth and see how sloppy it is.

Take a peek at your torque boxes too, check for cracks or breaks...

Shouldn't I be able to just crawl uner the car w/ it in "N" & rear tires on the ground and see how much slop is in the driveshaft? I really dont want to break into the rear end yet, but if i have to then so be it. And how much play is acceptable?

Also not to sound dumb, but what exactly are the torque boxe's? and what should I look for as far as cracks.
Thanks

Torque boxes are where the lower control arms are mounted to the frame. You could do the cover on in nuetral thing,The problem is that the spider gears can wear and if so you can't see what is sloppy with the cover on so.........

Ok. I will just remove the cover this weekend and check everything out. How much slop should I allow?

Mine does it too. I usually have to get in it real good or take a log trip for it to do it.
The car is also a peg leg.
