Cool 302 28oz to 50oz ballancer

I have a 1980 302 and I am putting a new t-5 into it. I have all the parts now, but I believe I have another problem. I have a good used 50oz flywheel for the tranny and the engine has a 28oz harmonic ballancer on it. Can I change out the ballancer to a 50oz or do I have to get a 28oz flywheel. The harmonic ballancer is cheaper to get.

Unhappy harmonic ballancer

There is no way to just change out the Harmonic Ballancer to the 50oz. I already have a 50oz flywheel to make a match set.
The 28oz Flywheel is 400.00 and the 50oz ballancer is 60.00

no you cant just change them out, and a 28oz flywheel is not 400$ take your 50oz flywheel down to a machine shop and tell them you need it to be a 28oz balance

The crankshaft is weight matched/balanced to the flywheel and balancer. A 50/50 balancer/flywheel has a crank balanced for the 50oz imbalance factor, and a 28/28 has a crank balanced for the 28oz imbalance factor. If you use a 50/50 on a 28 balanced crank, it's gonna vibrate like a mother at least, and possibly will snap the crank from the harmonics.

Didnt the 1980's cars have the 255? Not the 302?
