I need to replace my trans ASAP..I was curious what years had the AOS? This is my Daily Driver...so Im getting an auto replacement..but eventually going 5 speed when I have the funds.

Any one got an auto trans they are willing to ship? ha. I cant create new threads in the WTB classifieds..why?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

What is AOD/AOS?

My 3rd and 4rth gear don't work on my 88 4 speed auto trans.

I was shifting a lot from double drive into drive on the freeway to "downshift" like in fast and furious and after a while I heard this subtle clanking noise as if the gear was hitting something, not as if it was breaking...it would only happen at certain RPM's, like 2000 or above, so I assumed it had something to do with the auto shifting mechanism.

When I shifted into double drive, it would just rev to 4000+ and not really propel the car...the car still runs great in 1st and second, up to about 3000 rpm's at 45mph which isn't that bad really...if I need to pass someone or speed up it's great to have that advantage of the higher rpm's...but I miss taking it on the freeway and the gas mileage.

I would like to drop the transmission and just take a look around...would that be easy to do? My dad said he would help me and he has done it 10 times before but he doesn't want to do it again, which is fine...I would like to do it myself, just with his help.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

85 GT to 93 will work.
scarslilpyro, your trans is shot. They always lose OD then D. They are weak transmissions in stock form.

What options do I have? I don't make a lot of money...

I plan to go as easy on the car as possible, never race or abuse.

If you have the money for a replacement auto, why not save the money from the auto, save up a bit more money, and swap now?

How much money do you want to spend? You could always find a used one on Ebay for a decent price. Or you can go for a performance oriented AOD from PA, etc.

I think you can find them for about $1400.

If you need to replace it in a hurry, E-Bay is the place to get one. I saw a few yesterday for around $450 delivered. I'm sure if you can afford to, you could have upgraded parts installed. The ones I saw for cheap came from trans shops, so I'm sure you could custom order from them, any way you'd like it. Kelly.
