Default Gas & Oil Gauge Problem

Hey everyone i have a 1988 5.0L LX.

The gas and oil gauges on the right hand side of the dash are stuck? the gas needle is above the Full Mark and the Oil needle is at the lowest it can go.

Does anyone know what could be wrong and how to fix this?

try a new sending unit for the oil gauge and either the sending unit in the tank has shorted to ground or the wire itself has done such

unplug the sending unit for the gas gauge back at the tank, if it drops to E....most likely an intake sending unit issue

A cylindrical object above the oil filter with one single wire hooked to it. The wire runs to the Fuel injector harness kind of hard to miss the sender if you look in the right area.

Okay ill check out the oil sender wire.

Gas Gauge:

I unplugged the gas sender unit while the car was OFF and then started the car and the gas gauge was still above FULL. When i turned the key and car the car power the gas gauge went up a little higher past FULL.. So it moved like the tiniest bit but it didnt drop to EMPTY

Do i disconnect the wires while the car is running? or did i do it right?

Alright, you are almost better off buying an oil sender because they are dirt cheap. Mine was like 10 bucks from NAPA.

I was under the impression that when you unplugged the sending unit in the tank the needle would raise to above full. I had the same problem and replaced the anti-slosh module on the back of the cluster and will now show an accurate reading when i have less the 1/4 tank but up until then the needle remains at above full. Pretty weird but now i know when my gas is getting low haha.

Okay so i havnt figured out the oil gauge yet. The needle sits at 200 out of 100.. so i dont think thats normal..

Gas Gauge:

I disconnected the sending unit and tested it and its grounded some where!

What do i do!?
