Default Rear Diff ???

I am swapping out my rear diff. I have a 87 GT. I got a diff from a 92 LX.

My diff has some sort of weight bolted to the housing and the diff from the 92 LX doesn't

What is the purpose of this weight? And Is it needed?

So it won't hurt anything to leave it off?

it's a counter weight, you can remove it or transfer it over.
