Default Need some advice

I have a 1992 Ford Mustang LX Convertible with the stock 302 with 140k or so on it. We inherited it recently when my grandparents died, and are restoring it so we can use it. I have convinced my parents to do basic bolt on's after we get it back from being repainted and reupholstered.

Here's the problem: it has the stock 4spd AOD. They say no new transmission. I say poo. Is there anything relatively cheap I can do to the transmission (no sabotage) to make it better for the extra power I want to add? It does have to stay streetable though.

I plan on doing Magnaflow dual exhaust and a BBK intake, and maybe BBK shorty headers, that's a big if though. What do you guys think?

you can swap the aod for a 5 spd trans or just beef up the aod. as far as the shorty headers alot of people here will tell you to not waste your time on them and get longtubes. another idea would be to put together an h/c/i considering those are the most restrictive parts on the foxes.

Swapping the tranny is out, so what can I do to beef up the AOD? Also, h/c/i = ?

h/c/i = heads, cam, and intake swapping. as far as aod beefing up you can small things like shift kit, trans cooler, stall converters etc.. if money is tight do the GT40 or GT40P h/c/i

I see. Thanks. Where's a good place to acquire the shift kit? Also, does the stock 92 LX have headers or manifolds?

You can install a Transgo or Baumann Electronics shift kit in the AOD. It won't "beef" it up, as far as the internals, but it will shift harder and reduce slippage, and help acceleration. Both of these kits are good and don't cost a fortune. A trans cooler would also be a wise choice. Another upgrade would be a gear swap, probably the best bang for the buck for an AOD equipped car!.
