Default Unequal or equal shorties?

I have an otherwise stock 85 stock GT 5 speed but am wanting to get some shorties that accept an 86 up mid pipe and back etc.I have a chance to get a good deal on some MAC equal length 1 5/8 direct replacement model #9028690.It says they are recommended for high hp cars which mine is not.I dont want to kill a bunch of low end with these and a catless 2 1/2 h pipe.
What do you folks think?

Here is a dyno chart of a header shoot out, I do not know how accurate it is, JBA has a different chart on their website.

Anything is better than stock. But prepare to have the time of your life.
Getting old exhaust manifolds sucks!!!

I personally think it would perform better with a smaller 1.5 inch equal length header but I don't think it would be enough differance to pass up on a good deal on the 1-5/8 headers. I have to wonder what MAC considers high horsepower. IMO Shorty headers have no place on a high hp engine unless they are flipped over feeding into a turbo(s)
