Default AOD to C6?

I was wondering what I need to know before swapping this in my 89 LX.

you should be able to use the AOD flywheel as its 164 tooth also

but why are you losing a gear?

It can cause major header fitment issues on long tube headers, you will need a new flexplate and block plate. You will also need a new shifter as well. If you are using an aftermarket crank you will have to machine about .250 off the converter snout. Other than that it's a bolt in deal. I'd look into a C4 unless it's something you have on hand.

+1 on the C4. There's no real advantage to using a C6. The C4 installs easier, and weighs less.

You will lose about 25hp to the rear wheels with a C6. You can buy a well built C4 that can handle about the same abuse. The Only reaso I have one in my car is I had a brand new one in the Crate from TCI sitting in my shop and I wanted it near bullet proof. After having to work around it and all the issues if I had to go back I'd buy a New C4 and have sold the C6. If I do manage to break it it won't go back in. They are tough though.

Thanks guys... I had a guy in town who would sell my a C6 for a hundred, but it's sounds like a bit of a hassle... I'll go for the C4. Will there be any issues putting that in place?

Well... I have an AOD in it, and it is going out, I figured it would be cheaper to put in a C6 (now C4)... Am I wrong? How much would just a plain rebuild for an AOD run around?

buy the time you convert or buy and install a used c4 your gonna be at the same cost as just buying a new AOD because your gonna need a new flywheel block plate etc all to install a c4

www.jegs.com and www.summitracing.com etc sell new AOD just price one out, you will lose a significant amount of MPG with the swap
