Default 1986 Mustang

So I'm a student with low cash that is trying to buy a mustang. I have found one for $1200. It's a 1986 Mustang 5.0L. The strut towers have a lot of rust on them. I know this is a problem, and will have to fix it. I am not even sure it will pass safety check because of the strut towers.

Anyone have any experience with rusted strut towers and how much they would be to fix up with welded new plates?

The engine also looks very old, but I am planning on swapping it with another 5.0 302 later as I hear it is pretty simple to do. Again any info or help with the swap would help.

I know it doesnt sound like the greatest car, but I want a project v8 to rip around town in and bring to the local track. I have the tools to do my own work as well. The rest of the car is in pretty decent shape, with no rust holes or problems.

Thanks.

pics? how bad is the rust? surface? Swiss cheese?

as for the swap, get a Chilton manual and work as you go, its a very simple process and easy to figure out your first time

The car is actually pretty decent and nice for $1200. I was suprised when I got there. But yeah, the rust on the struts is pretty deep and looks almost cracked through. I dont have pictures of the rust, but heres the rest of the car.

yeah it sucks living in canada when it comes to buying cars. Its next to impossible to find any car for under $3,000 without rust. And if u do find a car without rust then ur only gonna have it for a year untill u got the rust from our damn winters lol.
