Have a 94 5.0 5 speed. knocked the guts out of the cats about 500 miles ago. Ran great for a while but now it is very tempermental. The O2 sensors are in front of the cats so I didn't think that what I did would create a problem. Scan tool says its running lean. The mechanic thought it could be a bad egr valve so I put a plate between the egr and intake but it still ran bad. He also thought it could be a bad mass airflow. The wierdest thing is that most of the time it runs bad, but once in a while it clears up and has tons of power. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Right now I only owe the mechanic beer but if I can't figure it out myself I will owe him $$$$.

try changing your fuel filter, run some injector cleaner through it...

run a KOER/KOEO test

clean your maf, check the TPS, that could be bad, clean the IAC...

Do everything Shelty said. I'd first clean the MAF w/some elecctrical contact cleaner. A clean MAF does wonders!

Check the IAT also, they can play hell on the running condition. Did he scan the car for DTC's?
