Default alternator fire

what are some reasons my alt caught fire? 92 lx

Did you soak it in gasoline in effort to increase conductivity?

Check your wiring, a band ground or something could have caused it to arc. Maybe you just got some junk in there and got unlucky.

i know the plugs like to melt but never heard of them catching fire

there is a TSB =TECH SERVICE bulletien on this very matter, the connector plugs were deemed faulty and would melt due to faulty connections and in some cases catch fire, with a new or reman alt they used to come with a new connector end that you were suppose to upgrade too, back when they came with such I performed the mod on my 92

yeah my plugg was quite cracked and corroded, hopefull that was the problem, ill let you know once i install the new alt in a few hours

Is this why I had to cut the wires off the old connector and use individual connectors from a wiring kit?
