347 heads on 302
So here is what I want to do. I want to put a top end on my stock 302 right now to get some power out of it. I cant stand driving it around this slow! Meanwhile I am going to save up for a 347 shortblock from fordstrokers with an a/m block and forged internals. I want to run the 600hp range with the new engine. I want to only buy a top end once. If I get a top end with lets say afr 185's and a good intake/cam that will keep up with the 347 can I bolt that to my stock 302 right now and have it run good then when I get the short block switch the top end over? I see most people running the 165/170 head range on the stock 302 but I know that wont keep up with the 347. Thanks.

I don't know if your going to get 600 horses out of a N/A 347.
How many miles are on your short block? Just poke and stroke it when you have it torn down. I don't think you have to worry about the block failing with only a N/A 347.

Sorry. I should have been more clear. I want around 450 or so from the motor then planned on running a 150 shot. The stock short block has about 110k on it. I only need it to last long enough to save up for the new shortblock.

You could use a 170, 185, 190, 210, 195...... cc figure is not what's important. Anyway, you could use a set of heads selected for a 347 on a 302/306 but you need to cam it correctly and different than a 347 in order to benefit from the heads flow characteristics.

So I could probably get heads and intake and cam for the 302 then switch it all over but probably look at a different cam for the stroker? Im just trying to not have to do things twice thats all. If I have to get another cam thats not the end of the world. Im still learning about cams and how they affect everything else........

Example:
1. Buy TFS TW 190 "fast as cast", install on 302 with the correct camshaft/valve train and have fun running 11's N/A if the the rest is set correctly (intake, headers, suspension, drive train).
2. Get your 347 SBF from Fordstrokers, install the TW's on it + intake and a camshaft to provide for the additional CI's..... have fun running low 11's N/A or better if the rest is set correctly, or if some juice is used.
And 100% streetable/driveable.

Makes sense. You think the 302 will run 11's with h/c/i and the other goodies? I didnt think it would run that low. I was thinking 12's? I know you have to have all the other stuff on the car setup for it.

Well here is what the local speed shop told me they recommend. TW fast as cast 190cc heads, 1.7rr, holley systemax intake, and x303 cam. They said change out the cam if I went 347. Any opinions?
