Can't run 14* timing anymore...wtf???
I used to be able to run 14* w/ the O/R h i recently took off no problem. Could this be b/c the cats are clogged on this stock h pipe i recently installed and failed emissions with? I have the timing at 13* and its pinging now.

I past the Nox test, but i was 3X the limit for Hydrocarbons(HC) and Carbon Monoxide(CO). I failed twice and I had the smog pump on the second test and I failed even worse.

set your timing down to about 8° and make sure you take the car for a good hard drive before taking it to the testing station. High HC shoes that your cat isnt doing its job properly. This can be caused by the car still being cold.
high Nox is typically a symptom of high combustion temperatures... i.e. advanced timing.
and the high CO is tied in with the high HC
i'd be willing to bet that the testing station started your car up while cold, and rolled it up onto the dyno rollers.
If you bring it back, make sure the car is at full operating temp. If the inspector insists on letting the car just sit until he's good and ready to test it, stay in the car and leave it running... remember, when the cats are hot, they are doing their job
also, dont run stupid additives, regular 87 octane will be MORE than enough. not to mention, easier for your cat to burn.

I drove it for 20 minutes before the second test and put in a bottle of gas treatment before, which I don't think helped. My Hc's were Barely lower with 10* timing but the CO went higher. I did notice on the second test that the guy ran my car longer a much faster than the first test. For CO the limit is 15.00 I had 44.00 on 1st test and 53.00 on 2nd. What about menthanol hydrate, does that help. Thanks alot Adder.

i decided to regap my ford plugs from .054 to .052 and it was shaking and backfiring. One of the plug insulators did look a tad burned. So i threw on some new Autolite coppers gapped and .052 and its running perfect and I have no pinging at 5500 rpms in second gears.
