what type of trans?
so im new to having a mustang, its a 87 gt and its got a b&m shifter in it, and i dont know how many gears i have. because when im on the freeway it seems to be high in the revs which gets me thinking that i should have one more gear to go. so my question is how do i find out how many gears do i have in my tranny, and what type of trans do i have?
thanks steve

I take it you have no clutch then so its def and automatic. Sounds like you have a c4 if your revs are high. What rpm are you sitting at when you are cruising??? Get a pic of the trans and I can tell ya.

The transmission oil pan, the bell housing, tail shaft, any of it will do really. There are big differences in the 2 if you know what you are looking for. When its in the car, where the bell housing and trans case come together is a really good place to get a pic. AOD's bellhousing and case are one piece. C4's are separate.

I have a standard transmission (T-5) and when I'm on the highway in 5th gear it revs at about 3200-4000... I have 4.10 gears though, so maybe that's something that you could be experiencing? Maybe your rear end is changed. Anyways not to highjack the thread, but can you put a Hurst Shifter or some type of racing shifter on a manual trans?

How fast are you driving on that highway?? You shouldn't be that high in the rpm range even with 4.10's. Yes they make aftermarket shifters for t5's. Its called a short throw shifter, many companys make them.

an aod has a funny shift pattern too... 3 slots for a 4-speed auto, 1-2-od (3 and 4 are in the same spot.. it won't shift into od under load... so when you lift it goes into 4th)
i like hurst, b&m and pro 5.0
usead all 3 and don't personally see much diff
