i got a new diff to put in and the guy said it had aftermarket gears, im gonna pull the cover off what numbers should be on gears if i got 3.55 or 3.73?

Don't need to pull the cover to see what gears you have. Make a mark on the driveshaft and 1 of the rear tires. Then spin the tire and see how many turns the driveshaft makes to get one complete rotation of the tire. 3 and a 1/2 turns would mean 3.55's and 3 and 3/4 turns would mean 3.73s.

diff is out of ca anyway. an cover is coming off but ill check that

Oh well if the diff is out that's a different story, the gears will either be stamped with 3.55 or 3.73.

If you can't see the stamp, do what I suggested.

my 3.27's are stamped on the pinion.but i dont think all gears are stamped though.could be wrong

My ford racing gears are stamped on the ring gear, easy to see.
