I didn't take it that high, he did. I was just watching. & it has a rev limiter. The highest point it will reach is 7k after it first bounces it stays at 6300-6700rpm.

His wires are touching his headers & they are a little burnt. We can't do anything though at the moment. We took his transmission out.(we're swapping cases, his is damaged) It's sitting in my work room as of right now awaiting a speedometer gear (his was broken in two). I'll put my wires on there for a run up the road to see if that's the problem. Then I'll look into the rest of the suggestions. His car is sitting in my yard on bricks atm. [8D] I'll let you all know.
Thanks for the info guys.

change out coils..........my pos mallery did that in every gear at 4000-4500rpm,but in nuetral it revved fine(cause of lack of load on the motor).....tell him to try that first $20 at autozone..........
just to make this noted about revving at 7k..........BULL! your factory tach
is old and way out of calibration hell mine was 300rpm off when i put my new one in............didn't see about those plug wires...
