Bad news about the 5.0

Well as some my know I had valvetrain issues with my motor. The previous owner of the motor totally screwed me on it. I called and all he has to say is that I must have screwed it up.This is just after he said he gurantees the motor. Too bad I got nothing in writing. Guess he needs to be taught a leason in not screwing people over.

First issue. Pushrods were too long by .125 and all 16 were bent. Replaced them.

Second issue. Lifters on passanger side were shot. Changed lifters.

Now.... I am all happy thinking I fixed the car and can finally take it for a spin. WRONG! I start it up and there is a dead miss to it. So I pull all the plugs and do a compression check.

Here are the results.
#1 140psi
#2 136psi
#3 0psi
#4 0psi
#5 5psi
#6 20psi
#7 135psi
#8 134psi

Looks like I will be replacing some valves now too. What sucks the most is that I have no clue what size valves are on it.

manley valves should have part numbers on them, also, you can have them measured.

on a side note... were you happy with the new pushrods?

it's not that hard to figure out the valve sizes.... they can be measured.......what heads are on it??

Pushrods are perfect. Thanks Adder.

It has GT-40 heads that were ported alot and had bigger Manley valves installed. I am now hoping to get lucky and they will have a part number like Adder said.

I guess now would be a good time to upgrade that old letter cam and get something alot better. but then I might need aonther set of pushrods again hah.

Good luck w the car.

Creetan 07-20-2009 09:26 PM

Thanks. I'll need it at this point.

AdderMk2 07-20-2009 09:33 PM

cam swap shouldnt affect pushrod selection.

Creetan 07-20-2009 10:54 PM

Thats good to know.

So what's a good cam for a carbed set up?
