which tranny is this..

I have a question if anyone could help? I bought a motor and tranny together with 60k miles on it that came out of a town car, not sure what year but it is a 5.0 motor. does anyone know which tranny this is (RF-E0AP-7A040-BD). It's an auto tranny probably either an aod or aode. the pan shape is almost rectangled with a triangle shaped area off of drivers rear side and a smaller bit off passenger rear if that makes sense???? i need to know so i can buy a stall conv. before i drop it in my project and to see if i need a shortened drive shaft..

that part number is for the tailshaft housing, take pics of it and let us know how many bolts there are in the pan

what year town car,?? also are there any elec connections on the tranny other than the PRNDL switch??

im not at home right now, my brother actually looked it up for me, and tried to explain over the phone. he said that its not prndl and that it's p r n d 2 1 (2nd & 1st i would only assume) as for the electronics I would more than likely have to look at it. I've read the AOD has p r n d l and the AOD-E has first, second then drive. is this true? it is a 5.0 towncar tho not sure on the year, that's what's giving me trouble.

lol....I can tell your new at this PRNDL is a generic term used in the industry for that switch irregardless od the gear shift numerical order/number:)

hahah yeah im new with this, but its a 14 bolt pattern pan, my brother said there is a switch beside the shifter and one switch towards the back, maybe near the tailshaft (not sure)??? i haven't looked at it in a few months since i've been at the beach the whole time. the car was 4 cyl 5 speed, i was just looking into the auto tranny to see if it was worth the time or if i should just go ahead and buy a tremec, if its the AOD-E i may look into it, if its just the AOD I'll more than likely just buy a tremec

you arent going to put an AOD-E into a 90 without a good amount of work

just scrap the idea and ditch the slushbox

hahah alright thanks for the advice anyways. is it the AOD-E tranny tho?

fordsitsup698 07-30-2009 01:49 PM

and if it is an AOD-E (if you know by what i've told you) will the ecu that came with the motor/tranny work compatibly with the AOD transmission? I'm not good with what will work with what as far as the ECU..

fordsitsup698 07-30-2009 01:52 PM

hahah and as far as the 4 cyl 5 spd ECU could it work properly with the 5.0 and a tremec
