Thumbs down Stretchy Belts

Well I managed to get my new alternator on today, and rigged up a new charge wire for it. This is a one-wire alt so the install was pretty easy... I'm just hoping it works as expected.

I ran out around 7:30pm desperately looking for a serpentine belt and ended up having to buy a Duralast belt from AutoZone... I was just planning to use this belt to start it up and make sure it ran ok before I get a better one to put on there for good.

When I released the belt tensioner, this thing stretched like a rubber band and the tensioner ended up bottoming out at the end of its range of motion. Suffice to say I didn't bother to try starting the car. Never buy these belts, even for testing purposes!

I'm looking for an 84.5" belt or slightly smaller now (smog pump del. and a slightly smaller than stock pulley on my alt - this is what came on it from Summit Racing). What's a good brand that doesn't stretch very much?

Are you running that with a smog pump delete & factory A/C? As far as I can tell this is about the length I'm going to need as soon as I can get a decent belt. I'm desperate to get this car back on the road... I just got plates on it last weekend

I'm going to check the NAPA store in the next town over tomorrow..

Gates Belts are as good if not better than o.e.m. which some manufactures use gate's anyway...
