heater core
Ok guys I have a 95gt convertible with 118,000 miles. I bought the care last year. The heater core went out. To have it replaced at the dealership it costed around $1000.00. They replaced the heatercore and installed a new box for the heater. Yesterday I noticed coolent on the garage floor and it apears to be coming from the area of the heater core. I have no idea why the heater core would only last one year or in convetible terms about 6,000 miles. Any ideas as to why the core did not last long or some thing else I should be doing?

A good mechanic that charges a fair price is hard to find. Most now just use AllData as their price determinant. I think the AllData estimates are pretty accurate, so if your dealer pads that number, they are not being fair. Take your business elsewhere.
Did they replace the box because they broke your old one? You shouldn't have to replace that.

After only a year I'd think its not the core. Try shining a flash light on the firewall where the heater core hoses attach. They are on the passenger side just above the valve cover and both are curly shaped.

They said who ever owned the car before me had cut into the box to replace the heatercore before and had glued and ziptied it back together. I took the car to a few auto shops and they wouldn't atempt to remove the dash to get to the heater core so I was forced to go to a ford dealer. They said the cost was all labor, my rear is still hurting. I am working alot of over time this week but when I get a chance I will check the hoses realy well. Hopfuly thats all it is.

Just look for the "leak path". It'll lead you to the source.
Also, the drain that comes out of the airbox is directly below those two hoses. If it is the core itself.. it would be draining from that hose / hole in the firewall.

Rich
