the hall effect tells the coil when to fire so mine was messing up at times and then went out all the way and to replace the pick up or hall effect you would have to take to hole dizy apart and put new parts back in and the mec say its easyer to just get a new dizy so thats what I did and now I run good so I would say just change the dizy and dont mess with taking it apart ,Good luck and write back and let us know what happens

whats the cheapest place to get a dizzy?...autozone has em for 100...and it seems like the all the performance brands are 250+ I still don't get why I can push start the car and it will run? Does that get everything in correct time because you are turning the motor over faster or something?

looking back at your start of this question Im woundering if you can try to start the car in gear with out pressing the clutch and see if it will start if it does then I would say maybe there is a problem with the nutral safety start switch ...Try to start the car with it in gear and see if it will start ,remember that the car will lurch when you turn the key in gear so have nothing infront of you when you try and let us know what happens...Also I got my dizy at oreillys for 90 ok

I tried starting it and the car will not turn over without the clutch pushed in...I tried in every gear and in neutral so the safety switch must be ok....but the car is starting at the moment too
Did you try push starting yours malo?

i just replaced the ignition switch about a month ago....it did start for about 3 weeks with no problems so it did cross my mind that it already went bad....but also I could have just been getting lucky for 3 weeks

Hmm, my friends 99 GT does this. Fuel pump kicks on, engine turns fast but gets no spark. Once it decides to start it runs fine, but its left us stranded for a few hours before. The mechanic shop couldnt even figure it out. They drove it to lunch for 3 weeks and it only did it once. It does it worse when its really cold outside. \
Weird problem.

the hall effect sensor inside the distributor is susceptible to the same problems as the fox TFI modules, from heat. although this doesn't answer why it will start when pushed/pop clutch, it is a place to start testing from.
