hey i just brought a 92 mustang lx convertible in hopes of taking the top off and putting it on my 88 lx but after the purchase i was informed that it couldnt be done because the tops are different ....is there anyway i can make the swap ....is it possible it would work if i took the 92 convertible top and frame off and put it on the 88

Who told you the tops where different? I have never heard anything like but I have never owned a vert either.

yes they are infact different. How, I have no idea, but any parts you purchase for vert tops specifically say 83-90 or 91-93.

I just installed a new top a few weeks back on my 89. tops are from 83-90 and 91 -93........anyway if you only knew the work it takes to install such, and get it right, you'd be better off having an upholstry shop install it for you, it took me 14hrs, I borrowed a staple gun from a friend at the upholtry shop and I used a heavy duty one I had and they also let me borrow a can of adhesive to glue the top in certain spots, when I got done it looked good but it is not a job for the novice, you got to get it just right or there will be wrinkles, took me 3 attempts before I was happy with it then I stapled it all the way around then glued it. alot of stretching and pulling, once your done sit it out in the sun closed so the top can stretch, it took mine a week or two being closed before it stretched out to where I could close the top easily from inside the car

hope you didnt buy the car just for the top there not to expensive just the cloth top goes for under 200 bucks

well i brought the car from a lady who's son wrecked it back in march it had fresh white leather interior along with fresh kick panels and dash. so since i cant use the top i can still use it for the interior and besides i only paid 600.00 so i think its still a great deal though..thanks for the info on the convertible swap guys
