hey guys how fast can you take 1st gear in a stock aod? just wondering beacuse it does seem like my car still has a 1st geasr and it will shift down, but sometime when i take off theres a lack of power and it almost feels like its in 2nd gear and not 1st gear.

my old 89 gt when i blew every gear but 1st i could only limp it home and go no faster then 30mph. that was with the stock 2.73 rear gears.

Once it shifts out of 1st, is will not always downshift back to first at speeds over 25mph.
You might try to adjust your TV cable to make sure it is adjusted as tight as possible.

make sure your tv cable is in spec. if you dont know how learn or dont mess with it. it WILL screw up your aod if its adjusted wrong.

When i had a AOD in my car with 2.73 rear gear first was about 55mph. with 4.10's it was about 35-40mph

Do NOT do this.

Best case scenario (if you plan on keeping the AOD) is to build a line pressure gauge so you can set it properly. Second best is to adjust it so there is no tension, nor any slack when the throttle plate is closed. With 2.73s your 1st gear shift point at WOT is going to be rediculously high, I want to say that mine was somehwere near 40-50 mph, I can't remember. It's been too long since I had stock gears in mine.
