Default Are these required?

Do I need the sleeves for the cylinder head bolts that are found on the engine block? I have two on one side of the block, but the other side of the block only has one sleeve.

Are these sleeves solely for the purpose of lining up the cylinder head? I can't see them providing any real seal against coolant considering they are not a solid sleeve(I think there is a slit in them to ease installation) and they are also only located on two of the 5 lower head bolts.

If I need to get the one I am missing, do auto parts stores usually have them?

Those sleeves are used for just that...aligning the head when you put the head on.

Other than that they serve no other purpose.

Makes assembly a whole lot easier!!! Hard to hold a head gasket in place while wrestling the head into place.

you need them, they keep the head gasket centered and from shifting while torquing the head down
