Default adding .030 to pushrod length?

if im checking pushrod length and putting my pushrod checker in and doing the routine 0 lash and setting preload on it. do i still need to add preload into account .030" and compression thickness of the gasket ?
just a little confused becuase i was thinking if i was setting preload and adjusting the pushrod checker wouldnt that already be adding the preload onto the length?

convert your hydro lifter to solid, bolt down your head lightly, color the tip of your valve stem with a sharpie. put your rod checker in and adjust it till the rocker looks centered on the stem, lock down your checker, lock down your rocker arm. crank around a few times to make sure the travel is centered on the valve stem. pull off your rocker and check the stem. if its dead center you know you have the correct length rod.

ps. make sure you convert your lifter back to stock or you could have some issue

take one lifter out. pull out the retaining spring on top, pop off the top piece with the hole in it, remove the spring.

stick your pinky finger in the lifter and pull out the plunger piece, flip it upside down, put that very top part back on top. now you have a solid lifter.

do all yoru measuring BS and when you are all done put it back together and you are done.

i have retro lifters for my new engine but i just took apart my stocker lifter and fliped the plunger upside down 2 sec ago it looks like the lifter pushrod seat sits higher then it used to is that normal?

*** nvm i just had to hammer it down
can take apart my retro lifters cuz its got the link bar in the way
it looks the exact same size i measured it with micrometer
so basically i dont need to add all the other bs just do lash and measuer right?
