MSD Billet distributor position help

MSD Billet distributor position help
Hello guys,
I am almost done with my set up, I ordered a new MSD dist. but when I removed mine I didn't take out the cap to see inside the position for the rotor, if I have my #1 piston @ DTC which way should my rotor point at ? my mech told me it should point @ almost # 8 piston but after I removed my dist I took the cap off and I see that my rotor was pointing at # 4 piston, I am a little confuse here any ideas how to do it right, which way to point my rotor ?
