i'm looking on at the new gear (just came in the mail) and it doesn't matter which way you put it on, so i answered my own question

does anyone have any ideas on why the speedo gear is getting chewed up?

thanks mjr, i looked it up on all data and they make it sound way to complicated. i followed your procedure and it worked great. the only problem i had was the damn ball bearing that rides underneath the square piece. my friend was holding it compressed to the spring connected to the square piece and the thing flew across my garage.. are hands were still greasy from the rtv, but luckly we found it pretty quickly.

hopefully we put the ball correctly underneath.

oh and the drive gear was a lttle worn out on the inside part of the teath.

thanks again
