Default valve cover gasket, and dead cylinder?

i recently bought a 94 gt mustang ever since day one i could tell it was missing at high rpm's and didn't have the power it should across all rpm's. (i got beat by a base model honda civic) so i thought it just needed a full tune up. plugs, wires, cap and rotor. went to replace plugs and wires, got all done except for the cylinder furthest back on passenger side, when i did that i noticed the wire had cracks in it and was grounding out on the valve cover. replaced it and as soon as i started i noticed a leak in valve cover gasket. could that cylinder have been dead the whole time? (only have had the car since Mon. night 9/14/09) now the valve cover gasket is leaking next to it? or could it be the header gasket? it sounds like a exhaust leak would sound.
i am starting to think i got ripped off by the person. paid $2,000 it has 144,000 miles. also it is a ****ty automatic.

Run the cylinder balance test. That should pinpoint the missing cylinder. After the KOER test codes goose the throttle, will enter the test. Will do test two more times at which point will let you know if cylinders are within 10% of each other.
