Default questions on cams that will pass smog in CA

Basically getting tired of the stock cam and want some more power so I am considering putting a cam in. Right now what I am thinking, considering piston to valve clearance and the 1.7s, the e303, b303, steeda #19, or trickflow stage 1 cam. I know the e303 is smog legal, had it in my old car and thought it was a decent cam. However, I realize the ford cams are considered outdated and would like to go with a newer design if possible.

I am wondering if anyone on here has had experience with smogging their cars in CA with the cams I listed. Also I am wondering if putting in one of these cams would even be worth the money. Considering the higher parasitic loss of the TKO 600 and not having longtubes, I am guessing my car will make 285-290 rwhp with a tune if I am lucky with one of these cams. Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated, thanks.

Well, my buddy has a 95 Cobra with Trick Flow heads, Trick Flow intake, e-303 cam, full long tube exhaust, cai, udp's, upgraded throttle body and maf, custom tune, and 3.73 gears, and puts down 300 rwhp & 320 rwtq.

To be honest his car is no faster than mine (mods and numbers in sig) at 270 rwhp. It's always a drivers race.

The car has a nice choppy idle with the e-cam, and nice all around drivability, but i don't think it's the greatest performing cam.

I believe the cam you choose will need to carry a C.A.R.B number, your best bet IS TO SUPERCHARGE the car

Crane 2031, which is what I have is CARB legal, but it might be harder to find now that Crane is out of business(opening under S&S Cycle). I think Steeda #19 is also.

Here is Texas we have adopted the same stringent Cali emissions. My car passes with flying colors with the TFS-1 cam. It's not CARB legal. But how are they going to know. It's in the block!

how much did your mileage go down with the tfs 1? From the sound of the idle on the tfs im guessing considerably lol. I remember the e303 even brought mine down quite a bit on my other car.

To be completely honest, I lost about 2mpg. My PI 2800 Stall and cam are not the best combo for saving gas. I went from 16mpg to 13mpg with the two things. But my car does sound pretty good. I still get around 19-20mpg on the freeway though w/4.10's. Too bad I do more city driving than highway.

and i'm sure its a lot of fun to drive lol. I'm suprised you don't make more power than that running 16 psi, capped out on your injectors?

Steeda told me the #19 would pass emissions but they never spent the money to get it a CARB EO number... dunno if you wanna take the chance though.
