Default switch on top front of 5 speed tranny

I was under my 1990 GT 5 speed looking for the speedometer cable, and I found a wire coming from a bundle to the left of the driveshaft going to what looks like a plug/switch on the forward top part of the transmission. It has 2 wires that split out of the bundle and goes into the plug/switch. One of the wires is disconnected from the plug. My cruise control does not work, but I can't imagine that that plug is part of the cruise control.

Any ideas what that switch/plug could control? It is not the backup light switch. I just replaced it.

Help.

the switch on top left front of tranny is the nuetral switch used by the ecm to tell when tranny is in gear and when not as so identified in a koer test

So, if there is one of the two wires going into the switch/plug disconnected, what effect will that have on the car?

mjr46, I am still not sure what you meant by the koer function or setting a code. Could you explain more?

Since my cruise control does not work, repairing/replacing the switch could make it work? I read another place that the speed sensor also breaks because it becomes saturated with oil and grease blown back by the engine. So, those two switches seem like an easy fix IF that is the problem.

Thanks for all your help.
