Default 302 rebuild

Quick question- I found a 302 long block that ran good when it was pulled 15 years ago. It's been sitting in dry storage covered up...The spark plugs are still in, minus carb but that has been covered up with a rag stuffed down the intake. The engine itself has 70k miles. I'm planing a complete tare down and repacing the crank, rods and pistons and everything else including replacing the heads with alum.....and so on... If the engine has been in storage for that long will the block be anygood for machine work? Or has it been sitting just to long?

Thanks,
Richard

the block should be useable and fine for machine work as long as it's not punched out to .060 already

The engine is from a 1968 Maverick that ran great when pulled so I've been told. Never been rebuilt and just sitting for years in storage. Thanks for the quick reply!

Richard; If that really a '68 302 you got hold thats an excellant find. Theres quite a bit more metal in it than the later stuff.
If you are lucky (50% of time) they'll sonic test thick enough to take .060 overbore.
Good block to use for a stroker motor........

Yup, got it home a few days ago...tore it apart. All looks good, standard bore with little wear on cylinder walls. The crankshaft has a little groving towards the front. Engine casting numbers are C80E-6015-A and the heads #'s are C80E 2V heads

Oh and I dont think it came from a Maverick! I'm thinking Fairlane? Not sure Ford made a 68 Maverick.

Richard; That's a '68 block for sur. I'm too lazy just now to get my de-coder and tell you just what that block came in.
Nothing special about those heads.....

the older blocks as such will withstand a little more than the latemodel ones, so keep it
