Need to know what you plan on using the car for first. For drag racing, you're going to want a different rear end than for road racing, and that is again different from a daily driver that doesn't see the track at all.

A locker solidly locks the rear axleshafts together so they both see power 100% of the time. There are various types. Some are "lunchbox" lockers that work automatically and some are controlled lockers that you can switch on and off. When a locker is engaged, the car will bind slightly in corners as one wheel can't turn faster than the other. Lunchbox lockers are cheaper and easier to install, but aren't as good as a full locker. You don't need to re-set the gears with a lunchbox locker because they fit inside of your existing differential case, but you do with a full locker that replaces the differential case.

A limited slip rear generally uses clutches to supply power to both wheels while still allowing the outer wheel to turn faster than the inner wheel in a corner.

The term "Posi" is thrown around to describe both a locker and a limited slip rear. It stands for "Positive Traction", meaning both wheels are powered, unlike an open differential.

JDraper: That's a really good explanation, I never knew the difference, I have 3:73s in my 8.8 95 GT with a ford racing limited slip diff, and I could notice a big difference in the handeling of the car.
