I was driving my car tonight and I was racing my friend. I hit 3rd and I felt a strange vibration in my shifter. I limped my car home and jacked it up checking the trans, rear end, drive shaft, and engine from underneath the car. I then went to the front of my car and looked at the harmonic balancer. It had some scratches and it looked weird. I think this is the problem. Is there any other thing I should check out? Thanks.

Drivetrain vibrations can be a little hard to find. If it does it when it is not in gear then you know it is from the flywheel forward. If it does it in gear it can be anywhere from the harmonic balancer to the rear end. Did you only feel the vibration once? Is it only in 3rd gear? what?

I first felt it in 3rd but I can feel it anywhere, stopping, starting, out of gear, anything. I am sure it is something to do withe the motor because not moving and out of gear it does it. The vibration varies with r.p.m. it seems to do it more when coming down off of a rev.
