I have an 89 5.0 Mustang Gt, I recently got a flowmaster cat back exhaust, the original one rotted through and was very loud ( in a bad way ) for awhile. I never noticed this before, and know it is a new noise. ONLY in 4th gear, from 1900 rpms to 2300 there is a VERY loud howling noise, but like I said, only at that specific time, and then its gone. Any ideas?

is it clearly an exhaust tone or does it have any metallic noises to it?

It clearly sounds like an exhaust tone. besides that, the exhaust sounds pretty good. Have not heard it from outside the car, unless both windows down would count..
