Default EGR PURPOSE

I have some idea of what it does, but do I need it. Can I just remove the whole EGR system? Can I just remove it and plug all the lines? I know there is no performace gain, but is there a problem if I remove it without buying anything? What shall I do? Please Help......

ok, first if you have maf your car wont react well to the elimination unless you buy the dummy plug. second you can eliminate it by plugging the vacuum line and buying an eliminator plate. or fabbing one out of some sheetmetal. you will loose a little fuel mileage but not enough to worry about and if you have emmisions in your state you wont pass. it will not add a lick of power, unless yours is carbon blocked open a little. you should do a search on EGR and you will learn alot about it.

what EGR does is Recirculate Exhaust Gases (hence the name) back up through the engine to burn the carbon's again and clean them up some. just makes for cleaner air. it doesn't work at WOT or at Idle, only at low loads and cruizing speeds.
