it looks like you make a solid lifter by taking the hydraulic portion out of the lifter. but if you identify the proper preload on the lifter which is .020 add that to my original number which was identified by having no preload on the lifter and no freeplay in the pushrod up and down and the rocker contacts the center of the valve, then you achieved your total length. since the lifter is fully extended when no load is placed on it (according to the instructions). 6.45+.020= 6.470. is there anything wrong with doing it this way?

just merely setting the rocker on what "looks" to be the center of the valve tip, is half assing the job. Either do it right, or dont do it at all..
