Default Noise from heads

Yeah so i had about 160k miles on this mustang did some burnouts / donuts and now theres a tapping noise coming from the heads..long story short i know its in my heads and i was curious what kinds of things could happen to make the valves make noise...? i took off the heads an the springs are all good i checkd the valve seals by taking the heads off keepn the spark plugs in an then putting water on the valves an no water draind threw (let sit for allday/night) i tore my motor apart an currently im doin my first COMPLETE rebuild and now that i've made my shortblock brand new im thinking i need to get a valve job because im sure the noise i hated will still be there if i re-use these heads without any work done 2 them...that would totally suck! wtf is wrong with these i mean when it ran i had no head gasket leaks or anything and when the car was cold it ran quietly but once warmed up and especially around 2000-2500 RPM it would make a horrible tapping sound...an if driven around the block a few times the idle will even sound like a knock...i know the noise wasnt a lifter or pushrod fer sure just trying to figure what the tapping/knocking noise would of been and why ? maybe just the valve seats maybe i take it apart and just get re-seated? im trying to do the poor mans rebuild cuz im broke due to this horrible economy an how there just isnt any more jobs!! bah i need work bad then id just pay someone else to finish my head ache but yea thats not gunna happen i gotta do it so any ideas would be greatly appreciated! thanks again

most likely what you heard was the rockers tapping.they could have broken loose somehow but most likely you didn't have to tear it apart

Well im pretty sure it wasnt my rockers...I got stok pedastal mount rockers and i took off my valve covers then started the engine to see if it was part of my rocker assemblies but it totally wasnt everything lookd fine! i haven't yet taken the heads apart yet..and im totally broke so i cant really afford getting any work done to the heads i completely rebuilt the shortblock so far and i would ****n hate to throw these heads back on and hear that horrible tapping!!! thats the whole reason i did the rebuild! lol all i needed was a valve job (probly) i dont know anybody know what it could be besides my rocker assemblies? i think its in the valves or something....the noise speeds up an slows down with RPMs and it really kicks in / gets loud when im in 2000-3000 RPM f'in horriblE!
