Rack and pinion steel lines won't seal...Help!!
#11
Yesterday, morning(monday) I cleaned everything and applied hi-temp thread sealant to the 2 metal lines. I just filled it up and started it and its literally pouring with fluid....wtf!! I don't know what else to do, i need my car for mobile work. If I can't fix it, im thinking of selling it, i have no choice. If i wasn't going to work i would run this POS off a cliff.....im over mustangs...this isn't worth the frustration.

The metal lines are part of the rack, the only way to get new ones is to get a new rack. The fitting on these is similar to the one on the pressure/return line, but with NO O ring. Without the o ring, all that seals these lines is metal to metal so i think its not leaking through the threads, but right where fluid flows in/out. I don't want to sell my car, i was just pissed b/c Ive removed all 4 lines and drained the system 3 times.

so why not just cough up $100 and get a new rack? its tons cheaper than converting to manual. i have an autozone rack in my car right now, works splendid. i had to change it because the seals for the inner tie rods were GONE. Quart a day worth of fluid.
they come with 2 ratios, a performance and a non performance. i went with performance.

I was just lookin at it on their site, thanks man. The rack isn't much more than a pump. Is changing the rack that bad? I hear you need a tool to disconnect the tie rods. I really hope i can just fix this one, it only has about 35K on it.

Well i tried o rings and it still pours out, so im gonna take it that this rack is toast. Warning to anyone else, don't EVER remove the 2 steel lines or you'll get a leak. These lines are not for sale anywhere, not even FORD. Do you need to get an alignment after installing the rack? thanks for the help everyone.
