Default non-HO heads

Hey guys, working with a buddy on a ranger swap. He's got the ranger all ready to accept the block and trans, but has a set of heads laying around and neither one of us are sure if they'll work on his non-ho motor. It's my understanding that non-ho (and 86 ho) heads are E6SE castings, and this is what his are stamped. I know his pistons aren't notched (86 block) so I'm not sure if it's okay to swap the go40 heads he has laying around onto that motor. Can anyone shed some light on what heads can go on a non-ho block?

THANKS

if he has no valve reliefs , it all depends on the cam used and cam timing, gt-40 heads would work but ptv should still be checked
