Default power steering problem?

alright my power steering pump had been making the terrible whining noise and my wheel was hard to turn and wouldnt return on its own at all. i figured a new pump was in order after doing some research. i finished the install tonight with a brand new one from pepboys (remanufactured rather) and although it made it better, its very slight, however the sound is gone. i think i bled the system correctly by lifitng the front wheels of the ground and cranking the car while turning from left to right from lock to lock but it only changed slightly. what did imess up? or is it something else? its a 1990 lx 5.0 and the the PO changed the cteering wheel to this lame pilot one that looks like it's from a video game is there a chance its like to tight or something. im stumped and want normal steering in my car lol

When i first got my car, the steering wheel was kinda hard, turned out to be a bad rack and pinion. After a new one, i could steer with one finger.

What does a new rack cost and how hard is it to replace?

60-120 for a replacement. They are easy to replace, but you will need a front end alignment afterwards, but they are a few tricks to get it in the ballpark of where it was. There are 2 bolts on the k-member plus the end links and lines.
