Stickin starter

Well I have been having this problem with my starter for a while it has been sticking on I have tried to get a new starter and solenoid 4 times now and it hasn't worked so we thought it was my stereo and replaced the alternator with a 130 amp one and that didn't work so we looked at the starter switch and it was a little melted so we replaced that and that also didn't work so when I try to start it the car will start but the starter won't shut off even when I shut off the car so wut is the problem

Short in the wiring somewhere. Does the car have headers?

lablvr 11-24-2009 06:21 PM

Yeah but they were on there before I got the car wut would they do

Headers have been known to melt starter wires and cause dead shorts if the wires were not properly routed or the headers are not wrapped. They also will cause plug wires to melt.

i just got that problem fixed on my car ....for me i drove it like that and happend to burn up the solinoid(thats mounted on the firewall)

from what the mechanic told me and ...the starter

i just came in the door from getting her out the shop and saw this thread
after the sticking stoped the starter didnt catch all the time (it would slip somtime..fixed now)

So how did your mechanic fix it and how long would it have taken the wires to melt I've had the car for over a year now wouldn't they melt faster than that

Do you have a one or two wire starter?

lablvr 11-24-2009 09:16 PM

It just has the one wire from the solenoid

solonoid

I just had that problem a while ago too and mine was the solenoid. but there has to be some sort of short causing it to go bad somewhere.
