I called Ford and they said I need to tell them what color and how many teeth are on the gear that is in my car. I have a 88 GT so can anyone tell me what color it is and how many teeth are on it before I rip apart my dash?

It's not in the dash, it's on the end of the speedo cable that goes into the transmission.
Depends on if it is AOD or T-5 manual trans and what gear in the rearend.
If all stock, then remobe the retaining bolt and pull the cable assembly from the trans and look at the gear. It is just held on to the cable by a clip.

It's an automatic all stock rear end

so pull the drive assembly and look at the gear, it's 1 bolt and retaining clip, 5-10 min and it'll be out
