1983 5.0 With tranny problem

Pulled tranny out of mustang 5.0 bc of leak [automatic]My son replaced rear seal....In his infinite wisdom he left converter bolted to flex plate. Put tranny back in an started leaking not long after again. Converter should be slid into tranny then assembled, yes ? Guy he bought it from replaced tranny that WAS in it and put a 1965, there about, tranny in it, he took the 1 that was in it and put in his older stang......Found out after
sale....could this be the problem, even though they bolt up.

thanks

There's no reason that the converter "has" to be installed on the tranny 1st, other than it makes it a lot easier to install. Leaving it on the flexplate usually makes it a b_itch to seat the converter fully. If the tranny is working properly, it's not the source of your leak.

actually there is a reason it has to be, for one so the convertor properly aligns into the front pump and so that the convertor seal sealing surface does not roll or nick the seal, gauranteed the way he installed it has messed up the front pump seal causing the leak.:)
