Default Timing Spout kills engine

Guys,
I did a pretty lengthy search but with no results, Car ran good in warm weather when we bought it, wouldnt start when it got cold, until we removed the timing shunt. Now the car
runs good without the timing spout , but dies when when put back in. We bought a new
MSD distributor and no luck same thing. We initially thought the stator was bad , hearing this from a very repetable mechanic, so we said time for an igntion /distributor upgrade. Getting ready to put the Msd Igniton box on tommorrow, although I dont think that is going to solve the problem.
Any ideas guys?

It appears it previously had an MSD Ignition on it (previous owner probably removed before
selling car , although he left 100hp Nitrous shot on it)

return the MSD distributor and put the stock one back in, or get a quality re-man.

set timing properly, check for vac leaks, and do a KAM reset/base idle relearn

Now heres where it gets interesting, the car also will not start sometimes unless, you jiggle the shifter around (5 speed), I am wondering if these no start issues are connected
somehow.

whats it do when it wont start? once upon a time my dad and I wired my 89 the old school firing order and i drove it for a few months, it didn't run like a champ but it still ran with the other order maybe somebody screwed up like we did? i'm not sure but check your neutral safety switch or clutch switch for the jiggle the shifter problem. what about a tune? did it have a custom tune for the comp with the nos and they also had an msd distributor and msd box? thats my amateur guesses.
i've heard that msd being crappy stuff too.... but my msd stuff works and i bought it after i heard that. i have the stock dist. with an msd cap kit wires and coil.
