Mustang idles rough...
I got a 1989 Mustang LX convertible 5.0 motor in it.
When I crank the motor up I have to constantly have to give it gas to keep it running or else it will just die. It has a check engine light to it and when I bought the car from someone he said that when he changed the cold air intake the check engine light came on. He also said that he took it to a tech and he said that the injectors were bad and needed to be changed out. I put a Edelbrock High Lift Cam, but he didn't give me the specs.
When I go down the road with it, it goes, then it chokes, then it goes, and sometimes it stops choking. Do I need the ECU Reprogrammed? Some guy told me you can't do it, some guy I can. Do I need to advance the timming? Is there a way to do it? It feels like only 6 cylinders are firring. It shakes the car really bad when It idles...

has the car been running like this ever since you bought it? or did it just start happening recently.
What color caps are on your fuel injectors. are they orange, red, blue, green?
Is the MAF sensor plugged in properly? its hard to tell from the picture.
Your spark plug wires appear to be in the correct order. but verify that they are 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, in counter-clockwise order.
Grab hold of a DVOM and check the SIGRTN voltage at the TPS.
What ECM is in the car (passenger side kick panel) look for the catch code.It will be a 3 digit code... A9L, A9P, 8LD, etc...
Pull the ECM down out of its cubby hole up in there and see if there is a chip mounted in the J3 service port.

Yes, its been running like this since I bought it.
Injectors are orange.
Yes, Firring order is correct.
Can you define DVOM, SIGRTN, TPS for me, so I can answer your questions?
I know what ECM is, is the catch code printed on the ECM?
Were is the J3 port at?
I will look at the ECU tomorrow.
I have more pictures in my gallery, thanks for responding guys.

DVOM = Digital Volt Ohm Meter
SGN RTN = Signal return of the 5vREF from the TPS telling the ECU what voltage is currently at the TPS. Higher the voltage, the more open the throttle plenum is, lower the voltage, less open the plenum is. Hes basically asking you to do a sweep test of the TPS. Im sure theres a write up around here how to do it, or you can even search online. Its very easy to do . The voltage on the SGN RTN wire should be around 0.98v for idle and 4.9v for WOT (KOEO). TPS's work on a 5 volt circuit reference that the ECU uses to calculate certain engine parimeters. Thats the easiest i can explain it, lol.
TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
WOT = Wide Open Throttle.
KOEO = Key On Engine Off
And yes to your question about the ECU.
Hope this helps

not all the gears are turning just yet!

Heres what I got.

https://mustangforums.com/forum/memb...f-the-ecu.html
I didn't see no chip in the ECU
https://mustangforums.com/forum/memb...chip-goes.html
Which place is the TPS, is it the sensor on the right hand side?

No that sensor is your IAC, it aloows air to bypass the blade at idle. Your TPS is the one on top, right beside your IAC. It looks to be unpluged, did you unplug it? If you didnt plug it up and start the car
