Default Clutch problem

I recently installed a RAM Clutch in my 93 5.0 along with a heavy duty fork, clutch cable, firewall adjuster, and new quadrant. After all of the adjustment that I can possibly have, it is still extremely difficult to shift this car. Even from a still position, Reverse is almost impossible to get to. One other issue is that I believe the throwout bearing is running all the time. This is a stock car with mild bolt ons of about 35 hp. I'd like to not have to replace this clutch, as I have bigger plans for more mods. I've had a friend who is an ASE Mechanic and operates one of the largest garages around here look at this and he can't see any other thing to do but replace the clutch. Any help would be appreciated.

Try your new setup with your old cable. Perhaps the new cable is just a little too long and the adjustment you have is not enough to take up the slack, leading to a non-release situation. If that does not work, you will probably have to yank the clutch out and see what went wrong.

definitely sounds like your not disengaging all the way

don't run it too long that way, if it's slipping it is eating it up, you might find that you toasted that new disk

double check your cable setup and if it is working properly... the clutch should start to engage about 2" off the floor

Nothing wrong with the bearing spinning all the time. A slight preload is ok.
With that said, I'm confident your adjustment is not too loose.
Not enough travel to lift the pressure plate off the disc, is a symptom of too loose.
Again, if your bearing is spiinning all the time. It's not too loose.

So I try to confirm it's not a quadrant, cable or adjuster problem like Mbradley said before you yank the clutch back out.

Does it easily slip into gear with the engine off?
If it's jacked up in the air. Engine running in gear with the clutch pedal into the carpet, does the wheels turn?
Did you install the fork correctly?
Is the disc facing the correct way.

i have had this same problem after i blow the springs out of my old clutch. it was last summer when i was ripping through town. after i dropped the clutch in 3 and i felt the tranny munch. And then shifted to 4 and it was a bi##h getting it into 4. i got home dropped the tranny put the new clutch in and then had the same problem you have. All i did was mess with the cable after i seen that it was hard to put it into gear. After the second time messing with the cable I never had that problem again. so good luck

Sorry I've been out of the net world for a few days, it is just as hard to shift in and out of gear setting still as it is running. This exact setup worked fine before, however I had a stock clutch with a fair amount of wear on it. I feel like the cable may be a leading factor here because it seems to have a little excess slack. How might I maneuver the cable in order to help me out???

ps thanks for all the help.

Your symptoms point to a clutch that is not disengaging. Perhaps you can put some large washers under the cable adjuster you just installed to pull some more cable.

I had the same problem with mine. Turns out that the adjustable cable was to long to really make the clutch engage and actually ended up breaking. I just put a new stock cable on there and its working as it should

If its hard going into gear with the engine off, its not the clutch, its the trans.

I had a similar probllem with mine. I took it to my brothers shop and it turned out that the stud part that goes through the fork had not been taken up enough. There is a sweet spot. You want your adjuster to be useable. Mess with it in the driveway. Check it by puting it in gear with clutch in and rev it up a little. If car rolls, it aint right. Nothing fixes itself unfortunately.
