Default gear questions

the ring and pinion install kit, i dont NEED it do i? i asked a couple guys they said my stuff should be still good, and if i need anything little the install shop should have it?

next question. is the traction lock rebuild a hard job? will they charge a lot for that? he said about 2 hours for the gears with is 96$, how long would the traction lok take???

break in time..do i have to let them break in? or can i give er right away,

There is defiantly no break in on steel to steel and you will need the shim kit.Chances are the old will not be the right backspacing for the new gears. The traction rebuild isnt that hard of a job but they could end up charging you a couple hours labor for the job.Should cost total no more than 400 maybe 450.Gears are great you'll love them

I had my gears installed last week and just to play it safe I drove normally for 100 miles. I bought the frpp 3.73's and they came with a crush sleeve and shims. that should be all you need. Fortunately my trac loc didn't need a rebuild. You should be really pleased once you get them installed. Well worth the cash.

another website had told me that FRPP's come with that stuff but the place i ordered from didnt say anything about it, but im assuming they come in the original ford package so the stuff will be included! thats perfect the main things i were wanting were the shims and crush sleeve!

ill probably drive the 100 miles in the first morning because ill want to stomp on it and try the gears out! lol. so you are happy with your 3:73s?

what do u rev at say 60 mph?

Yeah the gears are awesome. 1st gear goes by pretty fast but it feels like a whole new car. Rpm's are at 1900 at 60. Oh did you order a speedo gear also? Mine's a 5 speed, so I used the white 23 tooth gear.

Yes there is a break in time. Don't just get in and go. You need to drive the car long enough to get them hot then let the car sit for a few hours to allow them to cool off. normal driving after that for 100 or so miles. I was told by Ford Racing after I did my gears to put 500 miles on them before I changed the gear lube from SAE to Synthetic. By the way Ford gears love the thick stuff. I ran 80/90 and they were a little loud. Put in some Amsoil 75/140 and quieted them down nicely.
