Default Idle probs.

just did a HCI swap and while the power and torque is there, there is a bit of a surge at idle>> would a custom tune/chip eliminate this problem while also increasing hp and tq? (afr 165s,trickflow street upper & lower with a stage 2 cam, 24lb injectors, 70mm tb, calibrated 75mm maf) (fresh 302 block) 88 gt

What do you mean by surge? Is the idle moving or is your surge when you pull away from a stop?

a custom tune will help you maximize performance and smooth out most bumps in the system but if you have issues such as vacuum leaks, it wont fix that. give us more info on your problem

should not need a tune to fix such, I have a more aggressive set up in my 89, and while it had a hot restart suge issue, by dialing in FP, SETTING TPS, and making sure no codes existed and no vaccum leaks were pressent, then performed a base idle reset then drove the car imidiately for 60-100 miles idle settled right in, so go through the basics first

i have yet to find any vacuum leaks. base idle set. maf clean. salt and pepper connections are also clean but it did pull codes 12, 21, 33, 44, and 94. i looked up the codes and know what they mean but what would be the best way to go at this? if anyone needs more info let me know. thanks

at start up, cold or hot engine starts right up then the rpms drop. sometimes saves it self but most of the time it dies out.. i have learned to live with it by giving the gas a tit of a tap when needed. its really bad when i press on the clutch while coming to a stop.. i normally have to shift into neutral way ahead of time before coming to a stop in order to keep it on. It did help when i set the base idle but it didnt last to long, problem came back within a couple of days.

did you run koer at operating temp?? if not code 21 is the result, if so ect sensor may be bad, don't worry about 33 = egr code = function deleted..........for 12 , have you cleaned the Iac and made sure no carbon build up is present in the TB?? AR FOR 44 AND 94...DO YOU STILL HAVE the smog system on the car?? if not = reason for codes but irrelevant to your prob

mjr46 makes some good points. With code 12, and your stalling, that is IAC. Do a search on the web about cleaning the IAC. It is easy and very effective at solving your problem.
