v4 to v8 swap. front of motor too low
ok the quick and dirty.
donor - 88 convertible gt 5.0/originally auto - swapped to manual before i got it and was working perfectly fine until i met mr. telephone pole.
going into - 93 hatchback 2.3 lx
(i'll leave out the unnecessary)
swapped - trans, motor, crossmember, driveshaft, radiator, fan shroud.
--kept the motor mounts on the motor when pulled. they are in the bigger of the holes of the k-member
issue - the fan is too far low in the front of the bay. the fan shroud will not fit onto the radiator brackets with completely pushing against the fan blades.
facts -
--both radiators were attempted (v4 and v8) both are the same and doesnt make a difference. they are as far down as they will possible go.
--tried both sets of radiator brackets at the top of the bay. doesnt make a difference
--the crossmember was a slight pain to get in. its in the only way it will go. and pretty sure that its the correct way.
--ford says the crossmember is the same throughout all the 87-93 fox v8 models
--after the trans was mounted, the driveshaft seemed a little higher than what i've seen before. i had to have the yoke almost at the top of the floorboard to get the drive shaft in.
what i'm thinking is possibly the motor mounts but i'm curious to know if there have been other issues like this or other suggestions. my guess is that if new motor mounts raise the engine even a half inch, the trans would stay in the same spot, pulling the back of the motor down and the front of the motor up?????? <<<<<< even a 1/4 inch would lift on the motor mounts would make a huge difference in movement once it gets change in balance gets to the fan.

I never knew Ford made a V4 engine..... Is that some new technology or are you refering to the I4? lol
This swap has been covered many many times before on this board so im hoping you can find all your answers if you do a search. Theres quite a few of us who have done the 4 cylinder to 302 swap
