hotwire?

hotwire?
i have a 1988 ford mustang gt 5.0 engine. i only had 1 key for it when i bought it and i misplaced it. the alternator in the car is gone and i am going to try to fix it because i want to sell the car but before i call a lock smith to come make me a new key, i want to make sure the alternator is gunna work before i waste my time and pay for a new key. if the alternator wont work then i am going to junk the car, so why spend money on a locksmith first? so I need to know how to hotwire it or start it with a screw driver and the starter solinoid. i can assure you i am NOT trying to steal a car or anything as some people may assume when they hear the word "hotwire". another reason why is because since the alternator is gone, it has been sitting in my driveway for the past 4 months and hasnt been started up or driven once, i also need to start the car to make sure none of the lines have frozen or anything.. i know theres a way you can start the car with a screwdriver tapping the starter solinoid. can anything also tell me if this is dangerous? like i wont get electrocuted or anything is i disable the battery first right? my boyfriend is a full out mustang fanatic and mechanic and he also has one too but he is being lazy and stubborn and im determind to do it myself. thank you. - Jess

Unless the car is just totally trashed out I think it would be worth your while to get a new key made (maybe two) because then even if you decide you don't want it you can sell it to someone instead of just sending it away for scrap, unless, as I said, the car is trashed and no one would want to buy it for anything.
I don't know. I would spend the money getting a key made...

You could just pull the alternator and take it to the local parts store for testing. As for disabling the battery first, It'll never start then. If your boyfriend is being that much of a tool, I say its time for a new one while your at it.
